Who We Are
NYC Second Chance Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2009. With the help of our community of donors and supporters, we have saved over 15,000 lives from an unimaginable fate. We concentrate our efforts on large breed dogs and cats who need critical life-saving care. These two criteria make up most of the euthanasias in the United States.
Nine out of ten animals that enter NYC Second Chance Rescue were once set to be euthanized at a municipal shelter.
What We Do
We provide all levels of medical care and a healing and safe sanctuary for all pets through our foster care system and brick-and-mortar shelter. We do not discriminate on age, size, breed, or medical needs. We have a soft spot for pitbulls, seniors, and hospice patients.
We also love our community and believe families should not be separated because of financial restraints. We offer critical medical care and free food for families going through hard times via our Community Outreach Programs. These programs help keep families together and beloved pets out of the shelter system.
Our Mission
We practice responsible and innovative ways to reduce animal overpopulation in shelters, rescue and rehabilitate critically injured and neglected animals, and connect the community to services that enable animals to remain in their homes. Together we are advocates, rescuers, and educators. Together we make a difference. Why do we do what we do? Because they Matter.
Our Vision
To help create a world where animals are cherished, respected, and free from unnecessary suffering. We strive to reduce euthanasia rates and support an overburdened shelter system through education, community outreach, and compassionate care. We hope to destigmatize discriminated breeds in our community and build a society of animal advocacy and compassion. Will you be part of this journey with us?
